Writer's Block: Comic Instinct
Oh, they most certainly do. I don't know how anyone who has every lived with a pet could think otherwise. Every pet I have ever had plays and teases and jokes around. My rabbit will run up to you, bob you with his nose and then run away, and you can tell from his posture that he is highly amused. My mother's cat will wait behind a wall until the dog comes around the corner and will 'attack him' standing up and whapping with his paws, but his claws are in. He enjoys scaring the dog. They have better senses of humor than a lot of people I could name.
