Despite being laid off on Thursday (long story, suffice it to say that it had to do with our company being bought out), my week has been all right. Two weeks ago, I found out that I am pregnant. It started out the same as last time in that I was spotting from the start. After my positive home test, my clinic ordered rounds of blood testing, and eventually ultrasound #1. They dated the pregnancy at approximately 5 weeks 2 days, which was too early to see much of anything. I had no answers, unending hope, and crushing fear. It was two weeks of hell in which I assumed I was destined to miscarry again. To say it was an emotional roller coaster is an understatement.
Yesterday I went in for ultrasound #2, and the first thing we saw was a tiny rhythmic flicker in the gestational sac--the heartbeat of a 5 week 6 day old fetus. This is not to say that we are entirely out of the woods yet, but finding a heartbeat drops the risk of miscarriage to about 15% (because I still have some bleeding--although this is decreasing as time goes on).
Estimated due date is 10/10/10. I am ecstatic. Terrified, but ecstatic. And bloated. Oy. I go from mildly nauseated all day to bloated in the blink of an eye.
And my second moment of WIN came today when we were at Toys r Us. Kris had promised Sebastian that he would get a toy from Toys r Us with Kris' first paycheck. So we got there, they headed off to the action figures, and I made a bee-line for the baby gear to compare prices. I've been dreaming of getting the 3-in-1 stroller/carrier/car seat sets that I'd seen at Target, but they are holycowexpensive; most start at $120 and go up from there. There were two such sets sitting in the aisle of the store marked $29.90. I pulled one of the sales associates over and asked if that was correct, and he said yes--they were old display models that had been sold out, and were being replaced by a newer line. I couldn't pass it up! I know it's early, but I just bought a 3-in-1 stroller set for THIRTY DOLLARS (originally it was $150!!). The only downfall is that we have to buy the car seat base, but hell, even if we pay $40 for it we still saved a boatload of cash.
