formal_copy reminded me during the week that I get sick... seriously sick... at least once a winter. There's not a rhyme or reason to when. Could be early on... could be later on. But it happens, and it usually leaves me plastered to the bed and/or couch for a couple of days.
This year... it chose to do this to me over Valentine's Day weekend.
Fortunately for me, I don't get wrapped up so much in the particulars of Valentine's Day. Yes, the holiday's sentiment is sweet. What's not sweet is hour and half waits at restaurants that overcharge because every couple under the sun is trying to get out to get soemthing to eat together. Or the lines at movie theaters, or anything else that could be considered Date-ish. So, whenever
last_bastion asks me what I want to do for Valentine's Day, I usually answer with, "Nothing... we can do the Valentine's thing next week."
Still, it would have been nice to have been able to take him up to Boulder for his comics yesterday. Instead, I was couch bound, vacilating between the desire to claw my raw and protesting (and I do mean seriously protesting) throat of my neck and coughing riddled drug induced comas. Though toward the end of it I could see how
last_bastion was getting cagey, he was sweet enough to deal with the rediculousness of the situation by putting movie after movie through the DVD player and just keeping me company.
*smiles* Honestly... it had shades of a couple of years ago... when he,
noeticist, and I all went to see The Brave One on my birthday. Part way through the movie, the general feeling of 'ugh!' that had been building in me over the day burst forth in the form of a full blown, heinous fever. It was a good movie. I wanted to see the end of it. But at the end, I had to look at the two of them and say I didn't think birthday dinner was going to be an option, at which point my lack of color and other signs of discomfort took them both off guard a little bit.
Today, I'm feeling better. I almost said 'much', but I don't want to jinx myself. I'm still coughing... but its at least productive. My throat still hurts, but the level of agony involved has diminished. Life is starting to look normal again. Normal enough, even, to be ready to venture into the great outdoors today. Mind you, this 'venturing' really only existed in as far as it took for me and
last_bastion to make it to the mall... where we proceeded to walk around, take it easy, and people watch to the tune of Orange Julius and Dairy Queen.
So... I suppose... in the long run, you could say we did do something for Valentine's Day. *smiles* Just maybe not what other people think of as romantic.
I think I got spoiled every day of the Valentine's Day weekend, though. From Thursday through Friday... something little and new every day.
As a side note...
The Wolfman - Awesome. Go see it.
The Mutant Chronicles - One helluva cast in a very strange movie. If you don't mind quirky, pick it up. It felt like Doom meets... 1984... or soemthing like that.
Raen.
