TODAY I woke up at 10 to my mother throwing a pile of laundry in my face and informing me to get to work. I rolled over and looked at the clock, and panicked, because I was supposed to meet Chims at 10 for our little "field trip" to the research center, where my uncle works. I flipped out, scrambled for my cell phone, and ran around the house in a panic rather like a headless chicken. My mother (bless her soul) kept her cool and called my phone, while I ran around looking for it. It was, of course, out in my car.
Der.
I called Chimney, who was like "hey, where are you?" and babbled to him that I'd be over shortly, after I got dressed and all. Did just that, got sidetracked by mommy dear whilst going out the door, and managed to fetch Chim right around 10:30. Then, it was off to the research center!
We called my uncle on my phone from the front gate, and then sat and waited in the car for a few minutes. Everything was motionless inside, and Chim finally got out of the car and looked at the gate, saying it was padlocked. We drove for another entrance, were allowed in by a security guard, and found my uncle's building just as he called to ask me which entrance I was at. He came out to greet us as I parked, and in we went to go look at the fancy, sparkly computers.
The computer room was big, with two glass walls so people could see in from the hallways. The other two walls were painted taupe. The floor was raised, because cold air circulated underneath it, cooling the computers and blowing upwards through the available floor air vents. We looked at all the computers- the outdated one that was being replaced, graphics machines, the 40th fastest computer in the world, the list goes on. Around 11:30, we left the center to go meet my aunt for lunch at a little mexican resturant. Roughly 12 ish, we returned to look at more computers.
There were two information silos with robots inside that are incredibly cool. When I was younger, they actually let me go inside and have a look around, but this time, the robots were busy. The silos contain about a (EDIT EDIT EDIT: OBSCENELY LARGE AMOUNT) of information- Chimney almost fell over when he found out. It was awesome, and cool. I want a silo, but I don't want to give up massive amounts of space and pay an unholy electricity bill.
After we finished looking at the the computers (which were comprised of lots of blades), we went to my uncle's office and goofed around on his computer (which was just a dell), playing with google earth and also running files between a 210 terabyte machine in San Diego and my uncle's little office PC. We left around 2 ish, Uncle David going home and Chims and I returning to my casa to play lots of Zelda and surf the internet on my laptop. Around 5, I took Chims home, then came upstairs to fold my laundry, clean out my closet, and start weeding out my belongings for when I go off to college. Got distracted by my email, then by the dictionary, and then by this journal, but now I'm guessing I should go get to work. Wee.
So, in conclusion, today has been pretty cool so far. Mom's out getting Andrea from driver's ed right now, and I think we're going to eat dinner in a bit. Then, I'll probably write for a few hours, and then go to sleep, and wake up in the morning and go through my boring and mundane daily routine.
Life is fabulous. =D
