i'm starting to enjoy my US history class. and i know the guys do, cause
professor scott, she's hot. she goes thru the lectures hella fast though... wth..
today she told us the symbolism behind the Famous Wizard of Oz story
1. Dorothy's shoes in the original publication, is not red but silver. She was to represent
the average commoner.
2. Oz=ounce, was the measurement of gold. the author related them to the federal
government's Coinage Act.
3.Scarecrow represented the typical American farmers without a brain (business savvy)
to market their own grain.
4.Tin-man, being the capitalists without a heart, practicing dirty ways to maximize
profits.
5.The lion who lacked courage, was the author himself. hiding his views in a children
story.
6. Ending, Dorothy returns home. and being the most important point, i forgot why.
someone help me out here.
Anyways, ironies, symbolism and more... sometimes taking such humanities classes
requires us to find significance behind certain points but to what extent? sometimes i
think that we read too much into some things to the point where we label them as an
irony or a symbol. what if it were just mere coincidence? who knows? author knows.
heaven knows...
Heaven Knows the Wonderful Wizard of OZ anyways, i have a major pain in the brain. enough reading and now to sleeping....zzzz
