Beijing
The city's changed a lot since my last trip here in 2001. More cars, bigger cars-traffic's definitely getting worse. Lots of big new buildings too. Jason brought me to a traditional Chinese courtyard restaurant for dinner with some friends. Darren was there too! Dinner was excellent. Honest simple food and local beer.
Here's the commentary:
- Lots of traffic, even on a Saturday afternoon.
- Soviet-era shop. Or is it retro-chic?
- Dinner at Li Qun Peking Duck Restaurant in one of the older parts of the city. Looked dodgy, but when we got in ...
- ... we saw this guy blowing up a duck.
- He roasted them six at a time over a wood fire.
- The small and cramped kitchen where three cooks prepared delicious food for the entire restaurant.
- Full house.
- One table had to wait two hours to be seated. Not sure if it's them.
- Jason and Rita. Don't they look like a sweet couple?
