Oh for fuck's sake!

I seriously almost cried this morning.

In my environmental science class, there's an assignment that requires you to accept Darwinism in the setup of the problem. So far, not 1 but 3 students have raised their concerns. They don't accept evolution or natural selection; they want to know how to do the assignment based on Creationism. Hello? When did this shit come back? This is a classroom, not a church or a place of myth and make believe. When I was in school, there was no allowance for this shit. Suddenly, in the year 2008, people honestly think this is an option?

Even my grandmother has now changed her 'stone solid' beliefs to realize that evolution is just another part of God's Plan. She has adapted to scientific evidence, instead of casting it aside as nonsense.

I am just so deeply sorry for these people (whether or not they want me to be sorry for them, I realize.) And I hate that I have to read this shit without saying anything about it -- the last thing I should do is argue religion with students. But hello! They're somehow insisting that it has something to do with the class. I am so frustrated about this. I feel like suddenly math is under examination -- maybe we should replace this class with some catechism if they don't accept evolution. This entire class is based on the order of change over time in the environment and evolution is a huge part of that. If you can't accept carbon dating and dinosaur bones, how can you accept the carbon cycle?

ARGH. BRAIN HURTS. I need a LOL.

Edit: I kindly responsed to the posts with a basic "pretend for your grade." Heh.
