RL: Oh, the sweetness

Aug 27, 2006 19:53

My nephew called my cellphone two minutes after I'd left for dinner, and I missed the call because I forgot to take the phone with me. So I finally called back an hour and fifteen minutes later, when I remembered to check my phone. My sister answers, and she tells me how he's having a rotten day, and she thinks he's having "sympathy pains" of the emotional sort because she's PMSing and having a rough time of it.

After a few minutes with her, she hands the phone over to the nephew, and he sounds chipper, and he asks me about what I'm doing, and where was I when he called, and he tells me all about how he was homesick today because they ran a bunch of errands after going to church, and so they were out all day. As he's about to let me go, he tells me that talking to me always makes him feel better because he misses me "every second."

Yes, I cried. The boy-child is only eight, for heaven's sake, and he should not be that cute. But he then wanted me to tell all my friends he'd said hello (So hello to all of you, too. :D) and then he took charge of hanging up, because we sit and count to three, and neither of us will do it normally. And I'd be almost sad for the loss of that little game if he wasn't so damn cute. "I'm going to hang up now, Aunt Rae. Is that okay?"

I love my boys.
