Surprise!

Last night we went to a party at Ian and Janel's. It turned out to be a surprise, to announce their pregnancy! Julien and I had actually guessed last weekend, when we were going around town with them. He had noticed that she was always snacking on little cereal squares, and pointed out that she's never been a snacker before. Ironically, it was me who had noticed some changes in her figure (though she's looking as slim and fit as ever and is clearly going to be one of those Moms who doesn't even need to diet to get back to her old weight after the birth). Plus, when we stopped over their place on Friday that had received some lovely flowers, which pretty obviously seemed congratulatory. So, congrats to them! I think they are going to be fabulous parents, and looking at the ultrasound photos made me sort of long for our future...

One of the nicest parts of the party was that Amy brought her fiance Derek. It was the first time I'd really gotten a chance to chat with him a bit, and he was nice, sociable, and fun to talk to. I'm looking forward to when they move closer and we'll get to see more of them.

Then this morning, Amy, Janel, and I got together for brunch. We went to Screen Door, deciding that the expected one hour wait could be well utilized chatting. Good idea! We did end up waiting almost exactly an hour, but the menu was extremely tempting and my new goal is to drag Julien there again. Maybe a good example of Southern American food for Aurelie and Thomas when they come for the wedding? I really enjoyed my fried chicken and waffle :)

Tonight Alex and his friend are coming over for dinner. I hope the appreciate how Julien has been slaving over the meal -- he even went through the house cleaning. I personally just can't wait to try the pate. Smelling that enticing aroma every time I come into the house for the past two days has been almost unbearable -- I start drooling every time. Plus I'm excited to see what the French think of my grasshopper pie. Hopefully they won't be too horrified. At least I'll get to show off my new pie dish.
