Blood Memory

When I graduated from high school, Sharon Tyers, my dance instructor, gave me the book "Blood Memory", Martha Graham's autobiography. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't even open the cover until this year, when I was completely astonished by the quality of the work.

There is something about Graham that I find distinctly Randian, very much because of her own lack of awareness of it. She is so Randian simply because she is, she is, powerfully, fatally, herself, and nothing stands in the way of that. I loved reading about her life, in her own words.

The book made such an impression on me that I even dreamt about it last night. As part of a very complicated series of dreams, I met Sharon, and I apologized for having taken so long to have read the book. We kissed, French greeting style, and looked in one another's eyes, and simply knew the quality of the work.

I am not sure if it would be as meaningful to someone with no dance training at all, but I like to think that the interest of the story and the quality of the prose stand for themselves.
