35) The Sea by John Banville
Genre: Fiction
Pages: 264
Summary: When art historian Max Morden returns to the seaside village where he once spent a childhood holiday, he is both escaping from a recent loss and confronting a distant trauma. The Grace family appeared that long-ago summer as if from another world. Drawn to the Grace twins, Chloe and Myles, Max soon found himself entangled in their lives, which were as seductive as they were unsettling. What ensued would haunt him for the rest of his years and shape everything that was to follow.
Opinion: This book was beautiful, because of the imagery and how it flows, sometimes smoothly, sometimes choppily, like the waves in the sea, after which the book was named, so it fits :D There are points at which the narrative is confusing, because he mixes past and present and future, and makes the present sound like the past. There is one point in the book where he says that he can't distinguish anymore between past, present, etc. The end is very surprising, sad, but perfectly beautiful at the same time.
