Name That Book
Asking on behalf of an acquaintance, who writes:
Some years back I read a fantasy fiction trilogy. It was basically about a well meaning guy who turned out to be a god but didn't know it. I think the god of chaos, or maybe fire? He worked as a smith, and in the first book had crossed the waters to invade another land then stayed. At some point he ended up back in his original land, wreaking unintentional havoc there also. There was a recurring character of an old lady with rats in a basket that played an important role in the end.
I cannot for the life of me remember the title. Anyone have any clue what book I'm talking about?
ETA - I think crows played a recurring theme also.
