Snow Day!

Dec 14, 2008 14:09

It is snowing! A lot (for Portland, anyway. For places that regularly get weather other than rain in the winter, I imagine it's pretty wimpy). But it's that super dry, powdery snow that makes driving nearly impossible, even (and especially, because you can't pack it) when there are only a few inches on the road. I was going to run errands, because after living in the Carolina mountains I'm pretty confident in my ability to drive in, say, ice storms, but WHOA, this freaked me out--I am used to ice and wet snow, and this stuff is like driving through cornstarch. And my li'l hybrid does not do so well when it cannot get traction.

So instead of getting to Office Despot and thrift shops and the like, I limped my little car to Safeway, got toilet paper and hot cocoa and a couple other useful things, and headed home and declared today a snow day. No Krav. No library (which works out despite the looming deadline, because andrew6 and karenhealey were able to find the page citations I needed (I have an international network conspiracy of comics scholars! We should have codenames! And a secret handshake!). Instead, snuggling and putting-finishing-touches-on-paper and MST3K and World of Warcraft, and maybe, if I'm feeling ambitious, cleaning and a slightly scathing review of Silent Hill Homecoming (in the meantime, you can watch Yahtzee's, which covers most, but not all, of my gripes. That's right: I'm being nitpickier than Yahtzee. Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair.).
