oh monday monday monday. you are the least favored day amongst the masses for a reason. on monday mornings, my bed feels so much more comfy than it does every other day of the week. my coffee seems weaker. my email inbox is more congested. my eyes are a little drier and my motivation a bit more depleted. meetings are more laborious and the clock DEFINITELY moves slower. oh monday. why oh why?
i wish crisis could be averted at least until after 10am. i feel sometimes that people misuse the "urgent" flag for outgoing emails. when i open up my mail and see that glaring red exclamation point right in the middle of all the messages, my heart sinks. it signifies all that is unholy - the complete derailment of my perfectly planned rainy monday. i had planned on working slowly today, sipping on coffee and spending 1/2 my time gazing out the window to the foggy, rainy chicago skyline. maybe reorganize my stationery drawer and put together a presentation about retail trends in 2009. you know, low-key, leisurely office activity. putting out fires was NOT on the agenda so thanks a lot, little red exclamation mark. thanks a whole bunch.
the weekend was a nice one. friday i went to a fundraiser for a chicago policeman with oral cancer. it was all the free bud light and baked ziti you could consume. okay, the refreshments were not the highlight of the evening but it was good to catch up with some friends we had not seen in a while. saturday, kris and i went to a st. patty's parade at my old stomping grounds of forest park. we enjoyed some black and blues (guiness and blue moon) and watched the drunkards in their green beads at 2 in the afternoon. saturday night we volunteered to "crew" a punk show at my church's gym. now i know what you are probably assuming - and you are probably wrong. it was by no means a weak punk show. the gym was absolutely FILLED with 16 year olds sporting face piercings, mohawks, anarchy symbols, minor threat and misfit shirts, and knee-high doc martens. there was some intense moshing. the only difference is that when someone got knocked out, someone was there to help them up. it was the first punk show in which i wore ear plugs. and i still had a headache. at any rate, it was a great success. i really feel that you have to keep faith relevent for kids. i've always been of the position that you can be yourself and still have faith. that you don't have to fit into a single mold. you can be into all different kinds of fashion, music, film, sports, and hobbies and have faith. so yeah, it was a good way to spend a saturday night.
okay, i can't spend anymore time on this blog. i have fire drills to run now. grrrrr.
