Summer Doldrums

May 31, 2009 15:27

As I'm sure everyone is fully aware, it has been silent as the grave around here for the past few months. Since it's not as if we're inundated with exciting news about the series on a regular basis, I think we're mostly bemoaning the lack of fic, and I've been scratching my head as to what to do about it ( Read more... )

It actually sounds like a good idea.

This does sound like a really good idea. My problem is I always start with stories, and within the Subspecies universe, I always find it so difficult to imagine where I see my story going that doesn't become cliche. I can't tell you how many beginnings I have with no ends!... I did have an outline but I'll have to see where I get with it this summer. I think it's also about the time thing - I, and I know some other people have had absolutely NO time to be doing fic... not that I don't want to, because I would much rather write a story than an essay.

I guess the short of it is that yes, I think this is a good idea. At least if we're vocalizing the plot bunnies, personally it would give me direction with a story, and secondly sometimes it's nicer to have someone else write what you're imagining...

Alright I'm done my long response haha

Hey, cliches usually become so because we like them, and not everything's got to be 54783574327 words long. (Porn memes can be helpful for that; since you're generally dealing with a very specific set of circumstances, there's only so much you can do with 'em. :>) But, yeah, it can be easy to become overwhelmed--you've got this brilliant idea that only absolute perfection will suffice for, and end up fretting so much about it that it never goes anywhere. So throwing it out there can mean that at least something will come of it. :)

Did any specific format grab your attention? I'm thinking a generalized post is probably the best way to go, but I am hoping someone might come up with a genius organizational tactic or something. :)

I have an idea actually. Since you mentioned requests and fic exchanges would it help If i suggested people playing off on on idea and posting them on. Like, the storyline is from one person and everybody submits a chapter until it looks like a finifhed fic. A play off from people on the community, if you will.

A round robin story? Interesting! I know people do that, but I've never actually participated in one, so I'm not sure how they're supposed to work.

I suppose that could happen in several different fashions. Everybody agrees on the storyline beforehand, and writes their bit according to a schedule (though it would be a bummer if someone got held up and required everyone else to wait on them). Or someone could just start and others could jump in as they wished. But should it all happen as replies to one post, or different posts, or...? I dunno. I think a collaborative story would be a little chaotic by its very nature, but that's probably part of the fun. :)

I shall have to ponder the logistics of that one, but if you've got an idea as to how to run something like that, you should definitely go for it!
