Naturally...
If I'd looked closer I would have seen it sooner, but the motherboard I was trying to use (Which would have been great; that plan was awesome but it just did not work out) has a bent pin in the socket.
And yeah... without a very precisely controlled little tweezer thing I don't think I could have fixed it. I could barely see it well enough to guess at how the thing was bent.
And, it seems that it's kind of rare to have a core 2 duo motherboard with AGP and DDR400. So now I have a shiny new video card and DDR2 ram on a new motherboard. Ended up making it more or less from scratch but it works... the occasional bizarro thing going on, but I should be able to exorcise those things.
