Monday I finished another project; well, ok, not quite finished. It was fully functional and mostly bug-free, the code review today netted a decent pile of work but it's not really that bad. A few days work at most.
Yesterday I started to make sense out of my most recent project at work. The spec reads like the person writing it was drunk at the time, and the speculation regarding the person most likely responsible for it apparently does not disagree with this assessment. I've figured most of it out today, I'm just not quite sure yet how exactly one of the data files differs from the format it's supposed to be in; it's off by a few bytes per record and has exactly enough records in it that it evenly divides the length of the file by the number of bytes that are supposed to be in each record. I'm just not sure where those few bytes are going yet.
I finished Thief 2 sometime last week, and I finished Thief 3 Monday. I've now played through the entire series of Thief games. I liked 3 better than 2, though there are certain aspects of lameness to 3 that I'm displeased with. I mean, come on, where are my rope arrows? The Keepers' jiggity ubergoons were, well, regular guards who never went out of alert mode and had cool looking masks and knives and a ranged attack - they didn't even try to use stealth or strategy and for the most part died to generic city guards, random hammerites, pagans, and thugs. Lame. Also, the evil boss-person at the end was really pretty pansy, and apparently just plain dumb. She could've had her statues just watch each plot-point and remove the plot devices from their plot-slots shortly after Garret put them there. Heck, she paces back and forth in front of each plot-slot (somehow), and never thinks "Oh, maybe Mr. stealthy man was here already, I'd better take a look-see at that there plot-slot for a poorly guarded plot device that, if removed, would easily prevent him from stopping me."
At some point since the service tech left, my laptop's screen seems to have fixed itself. I should probably have it replaced before the service plan runs out.
I'm going to be getting over $1000 back between state and federal tax returns. Also, I'm going to send some info to my aunt, who will be providing some measure of help with my student loans. All around, this will loosen up my finances in the near future. It's a little early to plan the big "I'm not in debt anymore!" party; my student loans are not so easily defeated. This will probably make that party a year or so closer though.
