Batshit Crazy

Overall, the past 2 months have been crazy good, and crazy bad. I’ll start with the bad.

We lost all but one of the kittens in the first week they were born. The vet said it must have been something wrong with them physiologically for them to die suddenly like that in the first week. I was pretty upset, but we do have one super trooper survivor. The runt of the litter made it, and then survived a horrific boil/sore on one arm to be alive, well, and full of super kitten powers. Since she got so lucky, we named her Clover.

Then, this past weekend we lost our oldest cat Frisco. He was Bill’s cat, and a gift from his ex that he got for christmas years and years ago. He was around 18 years old and it looks like his poor body just gave out. Luckily, he didn’t suffer at all, as he had been up and around, eating, drinking, and pooping the day he died. We found him early on in the evening and we thought he was asleep till we went to move him and yeah.

Then to top it all off we also lost Austin this week. Turns out not many vets even know much about rabbit health. All we know is his eyes got crusty, and despite cleaning them out continued to be gunky and then when we went out to go to work Monday he had passed overnight. Really, the past week just hasn’t been good for us. First Frisco and then Austin.

On the good side…

We’ve been super busy with family and birthdays. First was Bill’s birthday on the 20th of June. We didn’t do much, just hung out at home because we had to work, etc. That weekend though we spent at his aunt’s house for his uncle’s 60th birthday. It was cool getting to see lots of family and hang out and not be the one cooking, cleaning, etc.

The next weekend my family from Arizona was in town and they came over for us to BBQ for them on saturday. It was awesome getting to see my Aunt Linda, Uncle Bud, Cousin Michelle, and to meet her son Xander.

Then the very next weekend we had Bill’s family reunion. His Mom’s family all live here and in Pennsylvania, so every year around his grandma’s birthday they all gather and spend the day together. This was alot of the same family we saw the weekend before last, plus the PA family, so it was alot of fun again. We spent the day talking, showing pictures, etc, and then some of the night singing while his cousin or his uncle played guitar.

Then the very next morning we woke up and everyone met at his other Aunt’s house for breakfast before the PA people went home. We waffled about going because we hadn’t left the night before until almost midnight and had had to take both my MIL and my brother home, but we ended up getting up and heading out. Not like we had anything better to do.

And that brings us up to now. We can sit down, breathe, and relax for the next few weekends. Well, kind of. We’re running a garage sale this coming weekend, and we always seem to find things to do.

Oh, we also added to our menagerie in May. We bought 5 pullets from a family in Canton for the fresh eggs. I’m going to post about “the ladies” in their very own post though. Until then, a picture!
