Gainesville Half Marathon

Feb 15, 2010 13:51

Yesterday was the Five Points of Life Half Marathon in Gainesville.
We headed up there Saturday night and after eating some delicious pasta from Luca's Pasta - went to bed fairly early.

I woke up at 5 and got ready to go.  I had 16 miles on my schedule so i decided to run from the hotel to the starting line - that way i could get my extra miles out of the way and the boys could get some extra sleep.  Sidney, of course, didn't like this plan and was standing up, wide awake when i got out of bed.  I put him in bed with Chris (he never went back to sleep) and I hit the road.

It was freezing cold outside but i had lots of clothes on.  I made it to the starting line 1.75 miles in so i picked up my number and shirt, checked my bag and headed back out around the UF Campus for another 1.25 miles.  I think i ended up with 3.2.

The half was okay.  It was a nice course and fairly well organized.  It could have used a few more port-a-potties along the course but overall it was nice.  I had a bit of a upset stomach (and unfortunately had to stop to use a bathroom) and didn't really feel like i was pushing it very hard.  I was really quite cold.  I didn't check my time at all during the race - only my minutes per miles - which were faster than i expected them to be.  My bathroom stop mile was 9:22 but i made up the time the next mile with a 7:22!
I rounded the corner to the finish line and saw Chris and Sidney again (i saw them two other times on the course) - i grabbed Sidney's hand and he and I ran across the finish line together.  I had a time of 1:45:41... not my best race ever but pretty good considering i felt wonky.
They gave Sidney my medal and we went to get a banana and some water.

I was curious and wanted to see how i did overall so i checked the results boards and was super surprised to see that i had placed 3rd in my age group!!    and 34th in women overall.    the awards weren't for another 1 1/2 hours so i had time to go back to the hotel, shower, warm up and change before heading back to collect my prize (which is a stainless water bottle).
We hit the road almost immediately thereafter.

Sidney slept the entire day and Chris and I did some housework.  I was exhausted but had too many things to do to take a nap.   i fell asleep at 10pm last night and i still feel so sleepy.

i'm off today though and now i'm going to do a few more chores.

TWO weeks until Gasparilla!!!   i need the weather to cooperate with  me and be a little bit warmer than it has been.  I don't need hot - i just can't take any more runs in the cold.  I really hope to qualify for Boston - if only so i can stop thinking about it!!

ok - lunch then vacuum.
