KHR nerd time. :/

So I saw this entry in hitman_reborn asking about the kanji of characters' names and how to type them on your computer. And I composed this long absurd comment and double-checked kanji meanings and EVERYTHING.

And then four people beat me to the punch. :(

So I am putting the comment-that-was-not-meant-to-be here for posterity. And also so I can display my dictionary-standard dissection of the kanji Amano-sensei chose for the names. Somewhat edited to remove extraneous information.

Just Gokkyun and Tsuna for now. (Why, yes, I've been listening to Reboraji. Gokkyun and Mocchan make me giggle. 8D)

獄寺隼人 [Gokudera Hayato]
獄寺 (Gokudera) is written with 獄 (goku) meaning jail/prison and 寺 (tera) meaning Buddhist temple. Hayato is written with 隼 (hayabusa) meaning falcon, and the 人 (hito) for person.

沢田綱吉 [Sawada Tsunayoshi]
沢田 is written with 沢 (sawa) for "swamp" and 田 (ta) for "rice paddy." 綱吉 is 綱 (tsuna) for "cord/rope" and 吉 (yoshi) for "joy."

Funnily enough Gokudera's name resonates somewhat with his back story. I don't know if this was intentional or not (probably was) but it's one of those things that makes you go "oh. Dude, how did I not see this coming? D:" in kind of a good way. Or maybe that's just me being a language nerd. D:

More KHR kanji dissection probably to come. 8D Just because this might be interesting. (oh, but first I need to finish translating Red Fraction. And then I got 大人のわがまま [translates best as "Adult Selfishness" although I kind of like the ring of "The Whimsy of Adults"] and a friend down the hall read it and said yes rather enthusiastically to my offer to translate it, so I'm going to be working on that too. :D LAWL ALL MY SCANLATION PROJECTS ARE 5927~)

P.S. FERAL THANK YOU FOR THE DENSHI JISHO LINK IT HAS SAVED MY SANITY AT LEAST A HUNDRED BILLION TIMES NOW /capslock /flail /spaz

P.P.S. I am putting my dorkradish tag into full use here. 8D
