That would be absolutely brilliant! If it was, say, a Steampunk, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (highly stylized) action film that also was very well written it would = genius.
I have to admit that I'm very much looking forward to the new Holmes film starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. I think it knows what it's trying to do is a bit ridiculous and snide and part of the fun of it is that it's very obviously not a typical Sherlock Holmes story (but the essences of it remain). I think it's ok in this instance just because there have been SOOOOO many reinterpretations of Sherlock Holmes over the years and he's quite a character who is part of the public domain. So is Dorian Gray for that matter, and I wouldn't think that the new film wasn't so LOLable if it didn't look so cheesy and over the top! I'm also going to happily go see it as well because it looks fun, hilarious, and ambiguously gay. I love both RDJ and JL. RDJ because he's a crazy bastard who reportedly on the set would do some sort of "cool" stunt then tell everyone, "Did you all just SEE THAT?! I was FANTASTIC just now!" Jude Law because he's a member of the Top Ten British Bastard Douchebags in cinema history and he's really made it a fine art. Love to them both.
