We spent the weekend in Virginia to hang out with Bart, record some new tunes and play a show.
We got on the road Friday night to head for Reston, VA to meet Bart at work. He served us huge beers and food from the bar where he works. When they closed up we headed back to his place and drank some more and talked about music. Then we proceeded to raid his basement and get some Big Neck stuff as well as cheap stuff from his distro. I got a few lps and singles, but I didn't have a ton of money. (Actually, I didn't end up paying him til yesterday. I didn't see a single atm all weekend.)
We left Bart's place around 1 on Saturday to head for Steveland and hopefully some Sonic burgers. We got there a little later than we'd hoped and didn't get a chance to stop at Sonic. Bart and I were heartily disappointed.
Recording wasn't as productive as we'd planned. We only ended up getting one tune done. It will most likely end up on the next Big Neck compilation. (Which should be awesome.) We tried to cover No Show by the Pack, but for some reason we just weren't getting it. We were running low on time and had to finish up the original and then head to the show.
Parking was scarce, and the room and stage were tiny, but what an amazing show. The first band was pretty good. They did a cool cover of He's Waiting by the Sonics. We played a really good set, I think, and we even got Steve Baise and Larry from the Candy Snatchers to come up and sing Stay With Me by the Dictators with us. Then Steve sprayed us with Budweiser. It was a great show, though. Steve came up again and did Baby I'm a King with us, but he definitely forgot some of the words. Then he heckled us some more and gave us a hard time about switching instruments (Who are you, the Oblivians?!). We did Emergency, Sooprize Package for Mr. Mineo and half of Rumble.
After the show we went to a couple lame parties and didn't make it back to Steve's place until about 6 am and we got on the road later than I was hoping on Sunday.
For the most part though it was a fun weekend. Not much else to report. Pictures coming later, maybe.
