One of the highlights for me of PFF '08 was an Australian mockumentary called KENNY. It was perhaps my favorite film of the entire festival.
The title character works for a Melbourne company that supplies and services porta-johns. Yeah, you can already imagine the depths that this film sinks to, and you'd be dead wrong! It turned out to be a very well written and touching film, that was also funny as hell. The main character is very down to earth, and is shown to be the average joe that many of us are, just with a stinky job. There is also a far bit of social commentary that is subtly woven in, making this a much more entertaining treat than you would have considered if you saw the trailer. I HEARTILY recommend this film, especially if you are sick of the traditional American drivel.
Oh, I really recommend avoiding the WIKI article on the film as I found that it gave away too much.
It will be released on DVD on September 30th.
