White House Announces U.S. Delegation to Attend
Inauguration of President-Elect Calderon

Mexico City, Friday, November 27, 2006-“To emphasize the breadth and great importance of our ties with Mexico, President Bush has chosen as his personal representatives to the inauguration of President-Elect Felipe Calderon on December 1, 2006, his father, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez. I too am deeply honored to have been asked to join this delegation. In addition to the official White House delegation, several U.S. governors and members of Congress will attend inaugural events this week in Mexico City.

“I am particularly pleased that former President Bush -a statesman, diplomat, visionary leader, and successful entrepreneur- will chair the official White House delegation to the inauguration. As one of the original architects of the North American Free Trade Agreement, former President Bush, like his son, is a great proponent of further strengthening the already-vibrant U.S.-Mexico bilateral relationship.

“The high-level delegates sent by the White House to attend the inauguration represent our two countries’ shared interests in free commerce, in the reduction of poverty and the betterment of our economies, and the improved security of our people through better law enforcement cooperation. They also bring with them the heartfelt good wishes of the American people as Mexico embarks on the next chapter in its democratic and prosperous future.

Below is the White House press release announcing the official inaugural delegation.”
