Author's Note: So yeah. PB n' J in a fic, lolwhut? One of my friends wondered this in an AIM convo we had; I took it to the next level. Enjoy :D

The first time Peanut-butter met Jelly was on the second week of December, the tenth to be exact.

It was not love at first sight, Peanut would tell Jelly later on, but Christmas morning soon proved him wrong.

Jacobs Smith had made himself a sandwich, sliding the knife across the bread ever so slowly, spreading out the delicious peanut-butter and jelly evenly on two separate slices.

"Honestly I don't see why you put jelly on that sandwich, tastes disgusting. I'd rather have my delicious marshmallow fluff on the peanut-butter." Karen said, Jacob's older sister.

Jacob rolled his eyes, smiled a bit, and placed the two slices together, peanut-butter crashing against jelly within the soft walls of the bread.

"Terribly sorry mate; the names Jelly, Jelly Smucker." The spread had an incredibly delicious voice.

"Peanut-butter Skippy. The Smith's usually don't buy Jelly, more so on the jam side. What brought you here?" Peanut asked, shamefully wondering if he could delicately explore every air bubble the spread had to offer.

"Mum took me up and ol' Jake nodded; nothing more to that story I guess."

Jacob began eating, putting a momentary pause on the conversation simply because jelly was having an anxiety attack.

"Don't fucking tell me everything will be bloody alright! I'm getting eaten for Christ's sake!" Jelly screamed as Jacob's teeth chewed on the two.

"Don't worry; you'll be back in your jar after he swallows; funny experience actually."

"Skips that's swell and all but I'm getting devoured. As in eaten, as in being chewed, as in--"

Peanut-butter didn't hear the rest; Jacob had finished eating.

~~~
Peanut had gotten use to being on the counter alone.
It was a surprise for him though, when he realized jelly was next to him.
"Mate, I have to tell you something; I've been in crazy shit, like crazy shit, but nothing beats that. How do we end up back in our jars anywho?" Jelly rambled on, peanut barely understanding a word the spread said.
"I don't know. It is what it is."
"Mmhmm."
And that was the end of that.
~~~

The second time they met was on Valentine’s day.

Mum decided to have a sandwich, quickly spreading the two sloppily on the bread.

"Nice to see you again, Skips. It's been what? A month?"

A month and fourteen days. Peanut had wanted to say, but instead he mumbled something about the knife.

"Didn't quite catch that?" Jelly said, his voice barely heard against Mum's booming voice.

"Nothing mate, nothing."

The chewing began, Peanut hearing the short, shallow gasps coming from the other as he tried to calm down.

"I love you." Peanut whispered, realizing it was too late as Mum finished.

~~~
The third time they meet is Jacob's birthday.
It's a quiet night, rain gently pelting the house as Father picks up the knife, humming a forgotten song as he spreads the two on a single slice.
"JellyIknowthisissuddenbutIlikeyouandpleasejustdon'trejectme." Peanut said, sucking in a deep breath as he waited eagerly for a response.
"Finally; I've been waiting forever. Mate, we're peanut-butter and jelly for Christ's sake; we belong together."
The jelly couldn't be distinguished from the peanut-butter after that.
~~~

It's been a long time since they first met, their jars slowly emptying as the years pass, the two lovers slowly growing old together.

The Smiths never wondered why their spreads end up mixing together seemingly by themselves each time they use it, only enjoying the taste they experience as they bite into the soft bread.

And for now the two sit on the counter, wondering when they will be opened next, wondering how long they will be able to feel each other, how long they can just be with each other.

As Mum puts the two slices together, she smiles dreamily outside the window, Edith Piaf playing softly in the background.

And for a moment, jelly wished they didn't have to be eaten now.
