Day 01: My favorite movie.
This may be harder for me to choose than favorite song actually. At least there I could narrow it down to a few artists who really stick out to me. Here, I guess I'll just have to consider movies I've watched so many times I know them backwards and forwards. Forcing myself to choose a favorite I suppose I'd have to go with Groundhog Day.
The movie just really plays to me in several important ways. One of the most obvious is that it's a snarky comedy, Bill Murray hits it out of the park as Phil Connors with lines like "This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather." Then there is the aspect of his repeating the same day over and over again, allowing him to explore most every opportunity of what could be done in a day. From trying every plate at every restaurant in town, to robbing a bank and getting away with it, sleeping with the most attractive women, learning everyone in town's life story, and even becoming insanely depressed and killing himself more times and ways than he can count. He also managed to teach himself skills such as learning french and playing the piano. The ability to have unlimited time to learn and explore is very appealing to me. I also am drawn to movies which allow 'normal' characters to break social conventions in drastic ways and observe what happens (a'la office space or american beauty) and this definitely hits that note perfectly. All in all, I feel safe in saying that Groundhog Day is my favorite movie.
