Mother of the Groom

My girlfriend Sara had a baby about a month ago. Her daughter is Finn's classmate, so I've had the privilege of giving her a ride home regularly as well as having her join us to swim and to play at the house. We have spent lots of time with Caitlin. In many ways, she and Finn are a perfect match. They are both head strong, stubborn and passionate about pretend. They regularly pretend they are kitties and will go to great lengths to not break character. Watching them play is hysterical as the improv grows more extreme. Sara witnessed Caitlin declaring Finn could not pass due to hot lava and then Finn sprouted wings and could fly until the laser beams shot out of the cliffs and... you get the idea.

One (of many) things I enjoy about their friendship is the fact that they must compromise their strong ideas and wills. Sometimes the cats quarrel in the process, but its loving disagreement and then play continues. I was not surprised when Finn asked if he could do a drama camp with Caitlin this Summer.

I was surprised by this conversation in the car yesterday:
Finn: "Caitlin! Do you know who I'm going to marry when I grow up?"
Caitlin looks at Finn inquiring.
Finn: "You! You can live with me at your house!"
Caitlin BEAMED. So SO cute. They agreed they would have 12 dogs and children. They would have a boy and then a girl and then a boy and then a girl... and eventually I lost track. They also decided they would move to Sequim and own a house with a hot tub.

Being the mother of an only boy, I'm pretty pleased to spend time with a little girl. Her energy is thoroughly welcome. Of course, as any good mother-of-the-groom, I'm touched by Finn's affection for her. ;)
