new beginnings

So, I think I can officially say this out loud now: My dad has a girlfriend and she is AWESOME. I introduced them and it's going swimmingly. I'm thrilled and they are happy. I'm trying not to press adoption papers at her just yet, but I hope she will love me too some day if it works out. ;)

Kelly gave me a good idea today to think of the holidays as being something I can build upon year by year. That re framing of the picture helped me get excited again about trying to dabble in traditions without feeling overwhelmed.

Today I found a preschool/primary school for Finn that I think is 110% of what I want. My slight hesitation is that the price matches the quality. However, his early education is something we have wanted to invest in from early on and we are willing to reach to give him a strong basis to jump off from. This school had the most outstanding, open-minded and progressive teaching styles that I've seen yet. Moreover, they teach to the whole person and regard the emotions as an important part of learning. In these early years when digging in the sand might be his "work" for the day, I really want there to be a focus on the emotional challenges that come up. These early years are so important. I took it as a very good sign that all of the staff has been there over ten years! I'm excited, but also peaceful. I feel this is the right decision for us. I hope there is space for him in the Fall.
