[Twenty-Six] - The Bittersweet Between My Teeth

Jul 13, 2011 21:59

I was a terrorist.

I helped kill dozens of innocent people and probably hundreds of others in order to free Japan from the oppression of the Britannian Empire. I'd do it again, too. I don't regret it, because I did it for the country, family and friends that I loved.

That's all I have to say.

event yo, rebel rebel rebel

Nunally…

I'm half Japanese. I'm a member of the Black Knights. Before that, before we were "knights for justice," we did a lot of terrible things just to do damage and strike fear into the Brtannians that ruled our country. Zero gave us a real path, a real way to free Japan, but before that… it was harder. We did whatever we could.

[OKAY THIS IS A LOT TO PROCESS SO.... she'll be quiet.... for a moment................ normally she would make some excuse and end the conversation for now but she's stuck at level 3 honesty... she's obligated to say what she really thinks]

B-But... there had to be another way. A way without so much violence.

I don't know if there was.

I'm not going to say if it was right or wrong. It's just the path we chose. The Britannians were eating our country alive, and we had to do something.

... I also believe that the Britannian Empire is unjust... and the way that the Japanese people are treated is horrible, but I can't believe that what the Black Knights do is the right thing.

I won't try to convince you one way or the other. Unlike… some we both know, I doubt you're going to start shoving your values down my throat.

I'm fine with that. We can still be friends, right?

Of course! I couldn't abandon a friend... that would be wrong too.

[she's quiet for a moment....]

Then at school, all that time... were you miserable?

Sometimes I was. It was always frustrating, anyway. There were so many things about Britannia that pissed me off.

But when I joined the student council… I know I was hiding who I really was the whole time, but you guys made it better. It got easier to go to school. I felt like I had made some real friends.

[The honesty has kicked in here, but to little effect. Kallen doesn't really mind sharing this with Nunnally.]

... I'm glad. Something like that... bearing a secret burden sounds so painful.

It wasn't easy. But I'm glad I kept going to school. My brother would have wanted it, and I got to meet everyone on the student council, too.

That was another secret I had to keep.

My brother died fighting Britannia. He founded the resistance group that eventually became the Black Knights.

It's okay. He knew the risks, and I've had a lot of time to come to grips with it.
