[Twenty-Second] - I've Got Wheels, I've Got Gutter Spray

[action; 772 Bunker Street]

[Neighbors and family members might notice the addition of one Guren Mk-II outside the house at 772 Bunker. It's parked halfway on the lawn and halfway on the road, since Kallen didn't want to block the whole driveway. Currently, she is outside with the machine, checking its parts and looking over the exterior.]

[WELL HOWDY NEIGHBOR. Viktoria is just... standing at the edge of her front yard and staring in abject terror. To sic the treebeast on this monstrosity or not, that is the question.]

[Kallen can more or less interpret that look.]

Uh--hi. Just something I got from back home.

It's not that scary, is it?

[Quickly tries to compose herself. You saw nothing.] What... is it?

A humanoid autonomous armored knight, or a Knightmare Frame. It's an advanced military machine originally developed by the Britannian Empire. Where I come from, all the strongest armies in the world have a few of these.

['Nightmare' was certainly an accurate term. This machine was something the Mechanists could have only dreamed of, and she herself couldn't even imagine the destruction it was capable of.]

My world has nothing like this. I trust that disagreements are few and far between?

Britannia made them to help take over countries. For a while, they had an overwhelming advantage in power, but they still antagonized almost the entire world. Widespread war broke out as soon as some of the other countries gained access to the same technology.

One country in particular, anyway. Japan was conquered specifically so that Britannia could have better access to Sakuradite, which is used to power Kinghtmares. So in a a lot of ways, the development of Knightmares caused more disagreements and conflicts.

[A wry grin appears on her face.] Isn't that how it always is? They promise their machines will change our lives for the better, and yet all they do is breed more war and strife. It's strange to hear of worlds so vastly different from mine, and yet, with so many similarities.

Britannia didn't even promise that. The creation of Knightmares just meant better lives for the Britannians. At least that's what they thought.

Well, they did end up better off, eventually. Except for a few people.

There are always those who slip through the cracks, no matter how well laid the plans. Were you one of the unlucky ones, by chance?

I'm mostly lucky to be alive, really. Can't complain too much, considering some of the things I managed to survive.

That certainly is something to be thankful for. You are luckier than I, anyway.

[She gives the machine another side glance.]
