If I don't fill these out, they're going to poison my water or something, aren't they?

death and taxes, eloquence thy name is, event yo, public inquiry

I certainly hope not. Dreadful things, these taxes. These forms are much too complicated to be simple. What do they mean by dividend? I am no accountant.

[He lets out a frustrated sigh.]

…Do you want me to come over and help?

Thank you for the offer though and you seem to have troubles of your own. This book is of some help that the forms come with. The language is confusing and what do they mean by withholdings? I haven't given anything...that I know of. My salary statement is just as vague as these tax documents.

You sure? I think I could do these pretty easily, but if it's something the town wants me to do, that by itself just makes me not want to do it. I'd ignore them if I didn't think they'd get me for it somehow.

I dare not take the chance when I have a wife here that I cannot afford to let them anger. She arrived just yesterday and I shall not see her angry again.

Oh. You got a new--uh--wife? Well, I hope she wasn't freaking out too badly.

[He laughs softly at the mention of her freaking out.]

She nearly threw a lamp at me. She's relatively calm otherwise though a bit on the...how should I say....I cannot describe her. We get along fine, yes, but we are still getting to know each other which is proving a challenge.

Hopefully she'll mellow out a bit. If I can get used to this place, I think anyone could.

I have confidence that Lucricia will be just fine. She seems pretty upset that she has no memories which I cannot blame her in the least. I am doing my best to support her though I'm certain that she'll be happiest when I find the means to let her regain what she has lost. It will prove to be a hard road though worth while when she remembers who she really is.

I have a lot to thank you for.

She has amnesia on top of everything? That must be really hard.

A lot to thank me for? Thanks, but I don't if I've done anything to warrant that.

Yes and I fear that her memories of her world are going to manifest in a way that could harm her if they come back too quickly. I want her to remember who she is. And I think....I've found myself at odds.

Actually you did. When I firs arrived here, I was placed in shock. I had no friend to speak of and you offered me guidance when so many other turned away. You've given me advice when others dared not to speak and you have become my first friend. Perhaps later, I'll introduce you to Lucrecia, Kallen. At the very least, she will have someone to speak to when she needs help or when she needs guidance. I'll introduce her to Olivia when the time comes.

I am not certain yet how she'll take to parties but I do know that she enjoys the bar.

Hard to say how she'll go about re-remembering everything. Getting it back in one big dump would be a lot to take in, especially if she faced a few tough things in her past. That might be how it happens, though.

Hey, I'm lucky to have you, too. There's no one else I can really bounce ideas off of, and you've also given me plenty of things to think about. When you've just lost all your old friends, it's great to be able to make some new ones. You ever need help with anything, I've got your back.

Likewise. I can't think of a better person as an aid and confidant. Perhaps when the time comes when we need each other for more than advice, I'll cover you just the same. Coming from worlds where we are used to taking care of our problems and thrust into a new one without a friend, I'm certainly glad that we found each other.

I just wish I could figure out how to drive a car without wrecking it.

[He chuckles softly.]

I believe the term is called, totaled? I have a new one now yet I'm afraid to drive it. They dealer said it had 340 horses. When I mentioned that I cannot see them, he looked at me as if I shot my bullet. At least it earned me free driving lessons and a license after I had passed the test.

[Kallen laughs.]

You come from somewhere without cars, huh? If you think driving one of those is tricky, you should see what I used to pilot.

[He laughs only because he finds the entire situation worth laughing about.]

I'll take you're word for it. I come from a time where horses and carriages are the main source of transportation. As embarrassed as I should be, I am more antiquated than I had originally thought when a car is hardly a challenge to you. I'm in good spirits though and I'm not afraid to try something new. In fact, I embrace it.

The future is a wondrous time indeed when machines can wash and dry clothes. Yes?

Yeah, I come from a time with some advanced machinery way beyond this stuff. We have phones that can fit in your pocket, play video, and access information on pretty much anything in seconds. Someone developed a way to make kinds of transporters and warships hover or fly quicker and more nimble than anything you can see in nature.

Being from a time period like yours is nothing to be embarrassed over, though. There are plenty of people who are always curious about what life was like in the past.
