I have a question.

During those two days when the phones wouldn't stop ringing, and got we got calls from people outside of Mayfield, did any of you… talk to someone who's dead?

Yeah. Someone that I knew… I saw him die a few months before I came here, but he was one of the people who I talked to on the phone.

Well, of the top of my head, I can think of a number of ways that might be possible.

I don't know if I'd believe that straight out over someone communicating from the dead. Anything else?

Well, the nature of this place suggests quite nicely that the ones in charge can cheat death.

That's true. It just might not be much of a barrier to them.

Do… you know what happens to someone who dies in Mayfield?

Only from hearsay. I believe they appear the next day, as if they had never died.

Creepy. Still, it could be a lot worse.

There's nothing so bad that it couldn't be a lot worse.

That depends on what's waiting for you in the afterlife.

Sure, but when you die, you still leave a lot of grief in your wake. It's not all about where you end up.

Even that could be worse, although it may not be best to dwell on the prospect.

Mm. Though I think everybody considers the consequences of death every now and then. It's one of those mysteries we'll never have solid answer to.
