Chris and I rented some old episodes of SCTV from Netflix, and in the mix, was an episode I had completely forgotten about with Wendy O Williams as the musical guest. I knew about her early on, because I read alot of Creem magazine back then. She appeared with Candy on The Fishin' Musician, a regular spot on SCTV. This spot was toted as follows: "From all over the world, rock stars come to Gil Fisher's Scuttlebut Lodge to be on the Fishin' Musician." Hosted by the amiable Gil Fisher in his log cabin, filmed somewhere in the Canadian Melonville wilderness. In this episode, Gil and The Plasmatics look at footage from their photo-safari. They parachute into the Melonville forest and set up camp. Then Wendy O takes on a gorilla. Chef Marcel cooks a vegetarian meal for them. The Plasmatics play "Doom Song" live, and redecorate the lodge in the process.
Ha ha, chain saw weilding, mohawked, and scantily clad Wendy O goes sky diving with the late John Candy and performs "Doom Song" with the Plasmatics afterward wearing a bra and thong, a rhino horn on her head, and then trashes entire set while John Candy and his hunting dog Phil cheerfully look on and laugh about it..talk about sureal imagery...she was so GWAR before there was GWAR, she was so eyebrow shaven punk before it became a trendy Goth thing to do. Honestly, I'm surprised she lived as long as she did, but it was wild to see the episode, now that they've both passed away. Here's a (mild) shot of Wendy O with (the still living) Lemmy of Motorhead. (Loved the speed metal version of Tammy Wynette's Stand By Your Man that they did together.)
