Tales of Quark stars and Quasars, big snails and puppy dog...
Dragon*Con was this weekend. shirlee53 and I planned to go Saturday and Sunday, picking up a two or three day pass. Such are the plans of mice and men. We get there, are directed by one of the hotel people down to registration, which we then found out had to be enter from *outside* the hotel. Before heading out, I noticed an amazing line that queued back and forth inside an amazingly large room, then we get out to where the line started on one side of the hotel. We followed the line around the building, down then next side of the hotel, only to find it wraps around the third side of the hotel. And it didn't appear to be moving. About this time, I'm seriously trying to balance how much I really wish to attend this Con vs standing in line for several hours and dealing with massive crowds. shirlee53 and I attended DragonCon back in the late '80s and there were less people at the con at any one time than there were in that line, just outside the hotel.
We then decided to walk down to the Brewpub where the meetup with CunningMinx and sfeley would be Sunday. sfeley had said it was just a mile north of the Con hotel. It was a bit further. shirlee53 made it to North avenue before her hips and knee had had enough. She's got some problems with osteo-arthritis.
We went to the meetup today, which was great. Lot's of PSE folks, a bunch of SF folks, not to mention CunningMinx and sfeley, were there. I've been following CunningMinx and sfeley's budding romance online. It's been so neat to see such nice folk get together. They were both great to meet and get to talk with. Minx is a little younger than I expected, but she seems exactly like she does in her podcast. The OPL quad made it out, it was great to see them again. There were lots of PSE folks I hadn't seen for quite some time - it was good to see the again.
About a month ago, my exe's brokeup. It hit me a little harder than I expected. SM brokeup with WW within two weeks of when I said a year and a half ago, still, it hurt. Worse because it comes at the absolute worst time for WW, financially . Things took a turn for the worse afterwards. I sent WW an email which were misinterpreted, which ended up getting her, and two of our friends upset with me. I've decided to take a break from the dojo for a little while. That way I won't run into WW, SM, or our two friends. One day I may be able to explain, but while her emotions are running so high, now's not the time. I might take this time to try out some Kung Fu - it will be one way to stay in shape during the hiatus.
