What Not to Give for Christmas

Nov 27, 2007 14:17

I heard the first radio commercial of the season yesterday promoting lottery tickets as Christmas presents.  I have a harsh Radagast judgment to make:

If you give someone a lottery ticket for Christmas you are a miserable excuse for a human being.

Seriously, is there any more worthless gift for Christmas than a lottery ticket?  It would be better to just give the guy the five or ten dollars in cash.  What's the thought process behind thinking a lottery ticket is an acceptable gift?  What sort of justification do you try to convince yourself of?

"Here's a lotto ticket - have fun!  And if you win, don't forget who gave it to you!"

Lazy selfishness!  No!  No, no, no!  Unacceptable!  Lottery tickets are the last resort of the desperate and unimaginative.  Here's some wisdom for you: if you receive a lottery ticket for Christmas, the person who gave it to you doesn't care about you at all.  They've put no emotion or consideration into you.  Christmas is about something special people - and the tradition of gift giving deserves some thought!  Give real gifts - don't be a goombah!
