The other night, my dad and I had a huge argument. The subject that sparked it? My job. I've come to realize that I don't like my job, and that it stresses me out a lot. Why? On the surface, a hostess job seems like a piece of cake. Maybe it is at a chain restaurant where they have enough employees, but not at this place. I have to seat people while being friendly and polite, answer the phone, fill out to go orders (which means I have to remember how to write a ticket with the correct abbreviations and ask all the right questions), ring up tickets (by using a system of PLU numbers-- each item on the menu has a corresponding PLU, meaning I have to find the numbers quickly and read handwriting), give change (our register doesn't tell you how much to give, so you have to add). I know I don't work that many hours, but the hours I do work always seem to be the time when my friends are free. What does this mean? I don't really get to see the people that I want to see during the summer since I don't see them during the school year. Also, with so little hours, I haven't gotten into a comfortable groove with all of the tasks I'm assigned to do.
I've recently been informed of an opportunity to earn a nice chunk of change. Plasma girls, you'll feel me on this one. I'm probably going to participate in a medical study. It's not going to be some crazy experimental drug or crap like that. It's perfectly safe and easy. And I make money. A lot more money than I make workng a few hours at minimum wage at a job I don't like.
My dad and I have since made up and have decided to go on some sort of vacation. I'm not sure where we're going, but it'll probably be toward the end of July. I'm excited. We've been thinking about a cruise, but we might do something else.
Addison and I hung out yesterday. We went to Twin Sisters, and I had my favorite chicken tortilla soup in the world (so far). It's amazing. Then it was on to the McNay. It was amazing! A couple of weeks ago, we bought a Georgia O'Keeffe print for my room, and now I've seen a few of her paintings in person. Plus one of the Water Lillies and Haymakers Resting by Pissaro (one of my favorites ever since we studied it in Ms. Kellogg's class). We were introduced to a more contemporary artist who's works are mostly etchings-- Sue Fuller. Her designs are so intricate and imaginative. They're amazing. Not to mention the grounds of the McNay are gorgeous. I absolutely love one of the metal sculptures they have-- a blue guy running down the side of the building. Really.
We also stopped at Thong's Thai to get some bubble tea. I love bubble tea.
Sadly, my project wouldn't load onto YouTube. I think it's 30 seconds too long. Oh well.
I've been on a huge Ben Kweller kick lately. Huge.
