Wow, first legitimate post in my journal. And it's a rant.
About Nintendo DS games.
There look to be some good DS games coming out this year. However, some of this year's DS games have me concerned about the future of humanity.
Case in point:
Foto Showdown Until now, there have been DS games that are "DSi enhanced"- games that have extra features if you own a DSi. Like putting your face in the game and such. Small things, almost gimicky, that didn't really matter which system you owned, or gave one system owner an advantage over another.
It's great if you own a DSi, but the game still works if you have one of those old DS Lite machines.
I liked that system.
Now it's no more.
We have the first game that will only work on a DSi (only because of the camera, as far as I know).
And there are at least 3 other games coming out this year that are "DSi only". What's the world coming to?
The purpose of still selling the DS Lite is so that gamers have a choice, and those that pick one over the other aren't at a disadvantage, or not able to play games.
I already own a DS Lite, and now there are games that require me to upgrade to play them. Upgrade to a system that's not even the next generation; like DS 1.5. I remember Nintendo reps telling us to think of the DSi as a high-end version of the DS, but not a separate system.
Apparently not.
This better not bring about a divide of DS games and DSi games. If so, we'll have DS gamers and DSi gamers. Those that paid money to upgrade, and can play the new games, and those that can't.
Hopefully DS games won't all be replaced by DSi only games. What does the DSi have that the regular DS doesn't? Some extra RAM, a slightly faster processor, cameras, and SD card support. And no GBA slot. Yet it's still the same device, basically.
None of
these games offer enough incentive for me to buy a DSi. I'll just stick with my DS Lite that works fine. Hopefully, like "DSi-enhanced" games, "DSi-only" games will stay as nothing more than a gimmick.
*end rant*
Golden Sun DS looks amazing though.
