I've been thinking a lot about when I was 16. I turned 16 in 2003. At that time, I was majorly obsessed with Conan O'Brien (I even wrote FANFICTION about him!) and I had just seen Adrien Brody in The Pianist. Three major passions/interests of my life were discovered that year. I haven't changed too much, since then, really. But if it wasn't for 2003 going the way it went, I might be a completely different person.
In 2003, I...
+ first went into Conan's Late Night set at 30 Rock, sent him a tie, wrote at least two fanfics about him going on adventures with Andy Richter (including one in which his wife said she was pregnant - it ended up being prophetic! I remember her reaching into the fridge and wording it like this, "Conan... I'm pregnant. Cheese?" [for his pasta XD])
+ saw Adrien winning Best Actor and found him incredibly cute. We rented The Pianist as soon as we saw the Oscars that year. And thus began two other obsessions: Adrien and the Holocaust (and its era).
+ attended a funeral for the first time, when my friend Meredith's mother died. :( I cried so much.
+ was in my first class with my favorite high school teacher, my French teacher, Mr. Fitzgerald. He got to be entertained by my Conan obsession, and he definitely was. I did lots of projects, in French, about that tall redhead. XD Conan aime les Red Sox.
+ also fell in love with Christopher Guest/Spinal Tap because A Mighty Wind came out that year. It inspired me to start watching The Simpsons - cos Harry Shearer is in This is Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind...
+ I could go on. The point is, a lot of things happened to me that year that have shaped who I am today. :)
What were you into when you were 16?
