Not enough time...
Ok so my pop calls me today to find some information on running a diesel engine on cooking oil. So I start looking at things and then he wants me to print what I find...

So after a little research I describe the processes to him on how to go about doing it. You can mix diesel and straight vegetable oil (SVO) in a 50/50 solution, convert your engine and run it off of SVO, or you can create biodiesel.
Mixing really doesn't gain anything because you still have to buy some fuel so basically it's just better on the enviorment... 50% better.
Running off of SVO requires that you convert your engine and do light processing of the oil. Of course he's not going to use new oil though because the gain he's looking for is a financial one. So he would get free used oil at any local greasy spoon resturant. And of course you have to process this somewhat. And after all this work they've found that the fatty acids build up in the combustion chamber, injectors, fuel lines, ect. and actually eat at the metal over time. So in the longrun this is a bad solution.
Biodiesel requires heavy processing. Basically after you strain the crap out of your oil (which you have to do in all meathods) you mix a meathonal/lye solution into the oil which breaks down the fatty acids. After this is done you can pour out the resulting mix into another continer and dispose of the remaining glycerine at "your local toxic disposal site." HAHA found that amusing.
Then you mix water in you fuel and let it settle to remove all the soapy residue out. Anyone that has seen Fight Club might remember that they made soap from fat and lye... Anyways after all that you have your resulting mix. Piece of cake right?
So basically I told him about all this and how I could print him directions on how to make it, but not about all the tests done on it. That research he needs a computer for (which he's been saying he wants one). So I ask him when he plans on getting one and that maybe this is a good reason to get one. He replies "I just don't have the time right now. I don't have the time to think about what I'm doing next week. I'm working 10 hours a day..."
He doesn't have time to do reading but he has time to hurry in the process of trying to create this fuel... Fucking hell!!! Sometimes my pop is a real smart guy... other times he's just recockulus.
