ItsMarta

Yup, so today was my first day taking the Marta bus and rail system to school. I thought I would put down a positive and negative list to see if it is worth it.

POSITIVE:
No 80 mile round trip 4 days a week (which = 320 miles/week)
Less wear and tear on car
I can read/write/sleep on the ride down there
Not as much money for gas and parking
Reduced chance of me rear ending someone
Marta buses can drive on the shoulder of 400 to avoid traffic

NEGATIVE:
It smells funny on the buses and trains
The bus from the closest station has it's last a.m. run at 9:35 am (classes aren't til 1:30 M/W)
To be at the bus in time I still have to sit in traffic
It must be daylight
No cell phone service in the tunnels
It's a complicated trip to make it to North Springs Station after 8 pm
If you walk the wrong way after getting off at 5 Points........... It is VERY scary. Even at 10am!

OK, So it's obvious - the positive totally outweighs the negative. I'm just not so keen on having to leave my house by 7:25 to make it to the bus. Not a big deal, I can always drive 2 more park and ride stations down 400 and they have buses that run to the North Springs station which will come in handy when I don't have to be at class until 1:30 (like tomorrow!) And if it's at lunchtime traffic should *hopefully* be very minimal! I'm a big girl now, I take Marta to school. Granted it still takes a solid hour to get down there, driving or otherwise, it's worth it - at least I am in school!!

Today I learned that no matter what the weatherman says, always bring a coat, hat, scarf and umbrella with you to school. Walking between tall buildings when the wind is blowing and it is raining is not very fun when you're wearing a tee-shirt and a thin jacket...

I haven't quite figured out which prof I like best or which class I'm going to enjoy the most but so far I'm really liking all of my lit classes. I can't say so much for my history class - it's a basic level required course and the prof in there drives me absolutely absolutely absolutely nuts. She wants to "teach us how o write a standard 5 paragraph essay" and is excited to teach us all about the key elements of an effective essay... Wait, last minute I checked this was a US History Survey course????? And I haven't written the standard 5 paragraph essay since my freshman year in high school... And I haven't written a paper with 1.25" left and right margins and single-spaced since... well, since forever it seems. Why does this history teacher care so much about teaching us how to write an essay? It just bugs me a lot but I think core classes are supposed to do that (bug the shit out of you because it's technically unnecessary).

OK, enough ramblings... My back hurts from sitting on the floor and typing.

LOVE!

PS - Please pray for me that I find my pink sapphire ring that I left in the bathroom today at GSU and please pray extra hard that Adam does not find out that I have lost it. I really think someone took it to lost and found because I realized I had left it on the sink and 5 minutes later went back in there and it was gone - I just hope the person who took it was honest and didn't decide to keep it for themselves...... Oh dear!
