Weird Valentine's Day

Feb 15, 2007 17:11

Yesterday was not your usual Valentine's Day.

It started rather early in the morning. I woke up to find several inches of snow on the ground...the first time ever this winter! Then I called school to see if it would be closed for the day. It wasn't. "GRRRR" I thought to myself. And so I got myself out of bed to get ready to go into school for my lesson. Krystal told me that Hannah had been throwing up all night, and would I please check on her before I left.

I got there, but suddenly right before my lesson I felt really sick to my stomach. Luckilly, nothing happened. The sick feeling only came and went. I couldn't tell if the sick feeling was real or mental, so Charlie advised that I go home and rest for the remainder of the day.

I went home, and Robbie came with me since he had nothing that afternoon either. He made chicken noodle soup, (since we were both feeling a little under the weather...he must have given me some sort of cold) which will probably last for the next two days, and we decided to watch "When Harry Met Sally". Just as I plugged the DVD player in and went to turn it on...

...the power went out. This was around 2:00 in the afternoon. "Okay" I thought..."it'll probably be fixed soon." I didn't call until 5:00 when it was still off. They said it would be fixed by 5:30. Well, 5:30 came and went, and it was still off. So I called again. 9:30, they said. 9:30 came, and still no luck. Robbie and I decided since the power probably wasn't going to be fixed even by 9:30, we'd go some place where there was power. So we took a trip to CVS, so I could get more candles, and other things I needed. Walking there was like hell. The sidewalks were ok in most areas, but crossing the street was more like crossing a lake. At one point the melted snow looked like the road covered in a thin sheet of ice...it was actually a pond 6 inches deep, which Robbie had the misfortune of stepping in.

So we finally got back, but the power still wasn't on. So we set a bunch of candles in various spots, like the kitchen, bathroom, and my room. Then Hannah needed Saltine crackers, which we didn't have, so I had to go back in the direction of CVS to fetch those, avoiding the lakes of slush. When I came back, I called again. 12:30, they said it would be fixed. "Yeah, right" I thought. And I went to bed.

The power DID finally come back on at 1:00 AM. But, you know, yesterday wasn't completely wasted. I did have a nice candle light dinner by default with my boyfriend. And because there was no power, we actually had to talk to each other instead of watching TV or playing DDR (not that we don't talk to each other...we do all the time, but there was nothing else to distract us). And Robbie got me FLOWERS! And a cute card with The Little Mermaid on it. So all in all it was a good day. Even if we did have 11 hours of no power, and a very sick roommate.
