Cheerleading
Saturday Sophie cheered at the football game. The action was off the field before the game, though...
The games are scheduled back-to-back, so there is inevitably an overlap of arrivals and departures. Apparently, the cheerleaders pissed off a mom from the team playing before us, and she chose to confront me about it. The girls were milling about creating a ruckus in her general vicinity whilst she was still watching the game. For crying out a window! They are 8-year-olds, and this is not a symphony! Mind you, there are only 2 shade trees, and she was the ONLY person under that one before we got there. But it was "her" shade. AND, her team had erected numerous temporary shade structures with plenty of room for extra people. We obliged and moved the girls as far away as was possible while still keeping them shaded (knowing they would be in the sun for 2 hours cheering), behind her so as not to obstruct the view of her team getting creamed 27-0. But apparently that wasn't good enough. She felt entitled, as if she had called ahead to the Football Field Guest Services Desk and made reservations for that particular shade tree.
I was quite proud of our moms who stepped in immediately and politely tried to inform her that there was no other sensible place for 16 young girls to go, while there were PLENTY of places for 1 grouchy woman to go. However, the confrontation escalated to the point that she was hurling racial slurs and other expletives at our cheerleader moms. Nice behavior to model to children, lady. Our moms kept their mouths in check, though. But, I think they wouldn't have if she had taunted us for 10 more seconds. Anyway, I was very happy to know that the other moms had my back.
Camera
My wonderful bf got me an early b-day present: a digital camera! I'm still trying to figure it out, but will post some cool pix soon.
Gas prices
I'm going to Colorado with Sophie, my dad, and my sister this weekend. She has the most sensible vehicle of us three (a Camry), but does not want to take it. We may resort to taking my dad's V-8 Toyota Tundra, even though it would cost $8,643.92 for the gas to get us the 700 miles round trip. My VW Beetle is fuel-efficient, but the damn check-engine light has come on AGAIN for the 724th time since I stupidly purchased it in 2001. [Hint: TDI engines do not like to run at 5,000 ft above sea level in a climate with no humidity. Something about the oxygen intake and diesel emissions. And, yes I should sell it, but the value has dropped off so drastically, that I am too far upside down on my loan.] Anyway, the last thing I want to be is stuck on a mountain pass with 3 adults and one child crammed into the new millenium version of Herbie the Love Bug.
Electronic Drums
The wonderful bf is selling his electronic drum set on ebay. He wants to use the funds to upgrade his acoustic set (or as Sophie says, "Uh-TWO-stick"). If you're interested in learning more, let me know.
