Like in my fic, "appears" being the operative word. Booth is trying to kill us all this season, just like HH. Heh. So much angst, oy. I think what's going on with him is he's setting down boundaries to protect his heart/sanity, much in the same way he did when overcoming his gambling addiction. He took a risk that night with Brennan (in the 100th ep)--he literally gambled, as Sweets recommended--and he lost, big time. It was a heartcrushing reminder of his past mistakes. Not just of gambling, but of all his previous bad decisions with women. Most likely also of all the times he believed his dad would change, but didn't.<--just my theory, coming from another child of an addict (we all tend to be prone to that type of thinking, I've found. You end up afraid to gamble on sudden change or "I'm gonna be different this time! Promise!"-type declarations.)

He's pulled himself back emotionally & is steadily moving forward on what he sees as a safe & healthy path. He's afraid of messing up again. He's still in love with Brennan. He loves Hannah, but there's no way he's in love with her; I don't buy it. He just feels happy with her, but that's not the same as being in love.

In the meantime, he can't let himself be close to Brennan or he'll lose himself all over again. He doesn't know how to just play one game of poker without betting it all. He's bare-knuckling it; I guarantee you.

Anyway, now that I'm done rambling about Booth. Ha. I love talking about this show though. Good times! Thank you so much for your comment. :)

Interesting...I see what you mean. There could be something there, its just so heartbreaking to watch them this season. Brennan trying to make jokes, Booth not always getting her...I need some happy moments!

I so know what you mean. This season has been killing me. I really hope after this week's episode, Booth begins acting kinder.
