I am obsessing over Folded Arm Figurines and the Goulandris Master, probably to an unhealthy level.
I have been taking notes in Art History and Mythology by hand, then typing them up at home. This gives me another opportunity to soak in what I wrote down, which I usually can't do because I'm too busy in class writing things down. Today's lectures took me about an hour and a half to type up, though I did add some thoughts and logical links to other resources and topics. So, if you're in one of my classes and miss a meeting, I'll always have typed notes, which I hope are mostly understandable. Hopefully typed notes will make studying easier because I can search a Word document for a keyword a lot easier than a notebook full of incoherent scribbles.
Tonight, I also allowed iTunes genius to create for me a lovely playlist, which I have dubbed "perky emo". I was a little hesitant to use genius because it's super creepy to have Apple tracking my listening and try to sell me more stuff, but it works surprisingly well. It's still no Pandora, though. Anyway, "perky emo" was perfect in both style and length for typing up my notes tonight.
Latin was a litte more intense today. She gave everyone these handouts about how to prepare the assigned text for class, emphasizing we should not write out our translations beforehand. Instead, she prefers we familiarize ourselves with the vocabulary and sentence structure style and translate on the spot. I was a little unnerved when I read the last sentences: "If you write out a translation and recite from it, what you are doing is taking steps towards memorizing that translation with all its errors. Out of the goodness of my heart, I confiscate written translations and rip them to shreds."
Ouch. I'm scared.
Natalie and I spent our time between Mythology and Latin today in the Fishbowl trying to parse and translate some passages. We got through two sentences (albeit long ones) in about an hour. Ugh.
