A Way to Say Good-bye

Mar 03, 2007 10:42

With all the confidence in saying goodbye, or "verge mentality", it becomes easier to conceptualize time. Time is a linear phenomenon, and we may only inevitably follow it. We cannot step outside of it, or begin to understand beyond it, but there are certain times when we feel that there is an opportunity to hop onto a new line, a new beginning. The feeling of being near an end leaves us full of breath, and on this verge all we need to do is exhale and jump.

However, it is wise to cast this misconception away, for there is only one beginning as there is just one unimaginable end.

The line that we have walked, the time that has already been experienced, is nothing but the messy footsteps of our past. They are imperfect but in their fallibility, they are divine. In front of us there is only a single path, and that is what we have yet to tread. We may attempt at conjectures on what lies ahead and we may cautiously contemplate preventive measures to maintain our stable path, but the whims of fate are beyond us.

Then I pray you watch the steps you take in this moment, this ever-passing moment, for the road we travel cannot be traveled again. For if you're caught by the nefarious dark of days past, you only add onto its malice. If you stare into the sun that lights the road ahead of us, you will be blinded by it.

We die with each breath, but we are vital because of it. Life is too short for tragedy, of lovers never known and grievous cases; life is too thin for pity, too weak to support the weight of surrender. I know no more than you stranger, but we share these few moments together and we've read these words the same. These feelings, too, will pass and I'll become nothing more than a memory -- so good-bye and though I've never known your name I will have known you forever. So good-bye.
