Welcome to the Incomprehensible Awards!
In honor of the Awesomely Depressing Awards, I am taking nominations for the most incomprehensible manga, anime, books, TV shows, and movies.
Please nominate and describe the works of art which most gave rise to the emotion, "What just happened?"
If I get enough nominations, I will pit them against each other for rounds of voting!
Note: shows or books which are only incomprehensible if you start halfway through, but not if you begin at the beginning, don't count. However, stories which start out coherent but then conclude in a burst of WTF are eligible for the special category of "Inexplicable Endings."
My initial nominees in the manga category:
The World Exists For Me. A lot happened. Really a lot. Demons named S&M, time travel, castrated swordfighters, magic jewels, destined brides, sheep, and Machiavelli were involved. And I have no idea why.
Phantom Dream. Mostly because of the plethora of hard-to-recall technical terms, the confusing panel layout, and the bad character design which made it impossible to tell who was who for much of the story. Also for limb regeneration happening off-page, which made me think there were two black-haired evil guys when in fact, one had merely regenerated his lopped-off arm.
I'll add more later. I'm sure there are many I'm forgetting.
