Oh my God, I covet those Mardi Gras gowns Padma and Gail were wearing. I can't decide which I liked more, Gail's black velvet and satin, or Padma's corset. Padma Lakhshmi in a mask, choker, and corset, there's an image to set the screen on fire.
I am surprised Fabio made it as far as he did. I think the judges hated to let go of the possibility of him saying, "You did not like the zweetness? Me, I love the things that are zweet!"
Yaaay! Wacky Carla made it into the final three! She has been my favorite forever. She reminds me of someone's slightly nutty aunt - a slightly nutty aunt who cooks brilliant food! Of the final five, she and Jeff were the two who took the most risks (shucking all those oysters! non-alcoholic cocktails!) and followed their own drummers, so I was sad to see Jeff not make it.
I still feel like Carla is the underdog, but a classical French background with a down-home personal style is a great mix. It also describes Thomas Keller, for instance. She has really come into her own after a shaky start, and her food looked delicious.
When the judges were complaining that Stefan and Fabio's food lacked heart and soul, then said, "But Carla - now THAT food had soul!" I remembered her semi-coherent babbling about cooking with LOVE, and thought, "NOW you're tasting the love."
