Angel Sanctuary volumes 12-14

Jan 28, 2008 11:37

I finished this series a while ago, but was unable to write it up because every time I attempted a thoughtful, coherent analysis, the content I was trying to analyze was so deliciously demented, so carefully foreshadowed yet totally insane, that my head exploded ( Read more... )

>> he is also secretly Lucifer! <<

What, that revelation doesn't merit a "ZOMG!"??

It would, except it was revealed earlier in the series. That's him in my icon!

Ah. Aha.

I was going to make some remark about how he's too cute for that, but of course, presenting a face of such cuteness would be trivial for the Prince of Darkness.

One wonders if the mangaka is familiar with Tanith Lee's Flat Earth series.

(And now I'm wondering if I should have recommended those to meganbmoore .... oh well, I can always save them for later.)

I think letting Zaphikel eat him was the ultimate act of love, but then Zaphikel realized it was Raziel despite being a FLESH-EATING ZOMBIE WITH DECAYING BRAINS and flung him away, in his own ultimate act of love, and the only way to top that was to accept the sacrifice.

One day we should go through AS and count how many disembodied heads there are.

It makes Saiyuki Gaiden's Heaven look downright heavenly.

Hmmm...so I was crushing on Lucifer the few volumes I borrowed from a coworker back when they were first coming out?

-Cannibalism, particularly parent/child cannibalism and the willing sacrifice of the food/victim out of love (see also: Katan and Rosiel, who are frequently paralleled to Raziel and Zaphikel; Adam Kadamon); in more general terms, love defined in terms of self-sacrifice and the question of appropriate parental/filial love

-Cloning, pregnancy, and reproduction (EVERYWHERE)

-Sex as defiling/foul/filthy/forbidden, particularly for women, whether they're willing or not; also an act of defiance against Heaven (Alexiel, Lucifer, Sara/Setsuna)

-wings getting cut off

-Not a recurrance, really, but I adore that finally the light-haired heroine willing to sacrifice everything for true love realizes that this doesn't actually justify screwing over everyone else in the entire world.

Oh, maybe! I have a terrible memory.

PS. WA 4 is not only really interesting, but it has exquisite color art. And the preview of the next volume had me jumping for joy.

BWAHAHAHAHA! I forgot the flying whale! And the winged brontosaurus!

And you forgot about Yuki Kaori's author note, in which she says, "Did you see Kira in a uniform? I LEAPT at the chance to put him in uniform because I love uniforms and think they are sexy! Here, have Kira in a uniform!"

Loligo and Mely have way more intelligent commentary than me, since all I am doing is trying not to fall out of my chair laughing. And the best part is, there are still six volumes to blog about!
