I have three separate business trips this month and may be off the net for some or all of them, so if I don't update this journal much or respond in other people's, that's why. (Do not be alarmed.) Two of them are boring day job things, but the third is the Virginia Avenue Project.
http://www.virginiaavenueproject.org/ It's a mentoring group that puts on plays that partner adults who are TV/film/theatre professionals with at-risk kids. They run workshops and have week-long theatre summer camps twice a year. I've been one of their stage managers for almost ten years-- one more link in a very fine chain. So I'll be up in Ojai for a week in June, hanging out with the kids and adults, getting sunburned and eating ice cream and giving manicures.
(If you do something once at camp that everyone likes, it becomes an instant tradition and the kids tell each other until kids you never met before walk up and ask you if you brought the silver nail polish. My traditions are that I bring tons of nail polish in assorted colors and paint everyone's nails, and that I take the kids to this cool used bookshop that has a tree growing in the middle of it and buy them books. Yes, you'd think they'd beg for karate lessons, but no one's ever asked. Books and nail polish, that's my thing.)
Also, I am contemplating going to New York this summer to meet my agent and editor, and because I haven't been there for about nine years. Just how horrid is the weather in August, and is it significantly worse than July?
