Why I love being a writer

I just emailed a friend this question in complete seriousness:

How many miles do you think is vaguely plausible for people to think they can walk in a blizzard if they have supernatural resiliency and can also turn into snow leopards?

See, to me this is fascinating because how many miles people can walk in a blizzard vs. how many miles they think they can walk is an entirely different question...

Those questions do, in fact, have quite different answers in the book. I was trying to figure out "What would likely seem possible?" (i.e., What could the characters reasonably believe without seeming like idiots?") What actually happens is a different story.

I once asked "How far can eight strong men carry a teenage girl in a litter in a day, through a semi-desert landscape?" and bless them, eight strong men built a litter and flung a teenage girl into it and trudged around a field for an hour, and then multiplied up. When I asked "Does a second girl make a difference?" they tossed her friend in with her and tried again.
